How many of us have resolved to keep stress under control in years past? Some of your employees have surely incorporated stress management into their resolutions this year. Helping out with this particular resolution can be tough as an employer, though, since all employees handle stress differently and have different methods for managing it.
There’s almost always going to be stress on the job for most workers, but how can you help employees manage it and not take it home with them?
This is one reason why LifeBalance strives to offer a wide variety of healthy, stress-relieving activities within the program’s vendor network. Perhaps your employees would benefit from discounts on massage and spa services, allowing them to get treatment more often. Maybe they’d leave stress behind by sweating it out in a yoga or dance class. Or maybe just taking their mind off of everyday troubles with discounts on performing arts events, sporting events, hotel reservations, ski lift tickets, whitewater rafting trips and other fun activities would do the trick.
There are, of course, additional measures for you to give employees outlets for stress during the work week. For example, can you offer more flexible work schedules so that your staff can sneak a stress-relieving workout in on their lunch break, fit in that morning yoga class before work or get home in time to take the kids to taekwondo? How about organizing lunchtime walks or working with a LifeBalance Vendor to offer on-site fitness, tai chi, yoga or meditation classes? LifeBalance massage therapists are always happy to come on-site and provide chair massage for a few hours, too. It may take a little thinking outside the box, but if you can give your employees outlets for their stress, you’ll be helping a number of them achieve their resolutions while improving the overall health of your company.
It’s about the time of year that we all start to ponder what our resolutions for the New Year will be. You know it’s tough for most of us to stick to our resolutions, so how can you, as an employer, help your employees stick to theirs? Over the next 5 business days, we will post 5 of the most common resolutions and ways that employers can help their team achieve them.
#1 – Get Fit:
This one is easy. January and February are the perfect time of year to run a physical activity challenge for employees and encourage healthy habits that can last all year. The 8-week LifeBalance Health Adventure Challenge, for example, provides employees with a fun, friendly competition that keeps them focused on their fitness goals long after many have let their resolutions fall by the wayside. In fact, many LifeBalance clients offer this challenge annually right after the New Year begins for their employees and have found that it yields great results! Employees appreciate the extra motivation and the accountability that the challenge provides, as you can read in a sampling of our member testimonials.
Implement an activity challenge and watch as your employees meet for walks on their breaks, hit the gym together, try new classes and encourage each other to make healthy choices. Combine the power of a fitness challenge with LifeBalance discounts on health club memberships and on physical activities like martial arts and dance and you will make great strides in helping your team get fit!
On Monday, we’ll post tips on how to help employees eat right in 2013. In the meantime, if you’d like to learn more about partnering with LifeBalance, contact Sales Director Dave Miller at sales@GetLifeBalanceToday.com.
Looks like a large percentage of SHRM Members have implemented employee discount programs and their employees are pretty darn happy about it. As it turns out, “The majority (55 percent) of HR professionals reported that their employees highly or somewhat valued these discounts”. Check out the findings yourself!
These results may be surprising, as when many of us think of desirable employee benefits, we think of health insurance, 401Ks and PTO. But the SHRM poll proves that helping to keep your staff happy can be as simple as helping them save a little money. Do you have an employee discount program in place? Have you tried to start one, only to find out that the program was too challenging to maintain or that it was too tough to find discounts that appeal to your diverse employee base? Time to check out LifeBalance. The LifeBalance Vendor network offers savings at thousands of recreational and wellness-related businesses, from health clubs and yoga studios to amusement parks and hotels. The program’s diverse offerings mean that employees of all backgrounds and interests can find ways to save money on their favorite healthy and stress-relieving activities.

You know what YOU think your wellness benefits should look like. But what do your employees want, and what will they respond to? Business Insurance asked that very question and published their findings in a recent article. You might be surprised at the results! According to their study, the top benefits that workers want are
- Fitness Discounts
- On-site Preventative Health Screenings
- Access to Health & Wellness Experts
- On-site Fitness Facilities
Are these the results you expected? Is your organization currently equipped to provide your workforce with these services? This is where the LifeBalance Program comes in. Consider this:
- The LifeBalance Discount Network offers savings at thousands of wellness-related businesses, from local health clubs and yoga studios to ski resorts and bicycle tour operators. And don’t forget the multitude of savings on stress-relieving recreational activities, too.
- LifeBalance is partnered with wellness experts in a variety of fields, from exercise to nutrition to personal coaching. From disseminating tips and advice written by these experts to our members to sending these experts to your facilities to talk about wellness, LifeBalance can give your employees access to the wellness information they are looking for.
- LifeBalance can help you set up and coordinate on-site health screenings, helping your employees assess their overall health.
We suppose we are NOT the experts in knocking down office walls and building on-site fitness facilities (though we do coordinate on-site wellness classes for clients, if turning your conference room into a full-service gym isn’t feasible)…bummer. But, then again, three out of four ain’t bad!
Give your employees what they want. Give them LifeBalance. Contact LifeBalance Sales Director Dave Miller at sales@LifeBalanceProgram.com to learn more.

How can employers offer great perks and improve employee satisfaction and retention? How can a health plan stand out in an increasingly competitive health care market? As HR expert Ceridian points out in the article Employee Discounts: A Triple Win for Employers, Employees and Vendors, one cost-effective solution is an employee discount program. As Ceridian explains, for an employer, the benefits of implementing an employee discount program are numerous for all involved parties. As LifeBalance has proven, an expansive discount program can become an indispensable benefit for employers and health plans.
The LifeBalance Vendor Network offers discounts at thousands of recreational, cultural, wellness and travel related businesses. “The comprehensive vendor network offers something for all of our team members, who have a wide variety of interests,” says Bill Nelson, LifeBalance Client and Regional Director of Compensation and Benefits at Providence Health & Services California. “Our employees see great value in the program.”
